Derriaghy Announce Matt Scoble As New Overseas Player
Derriaghy Cricket Club are delighted to announce the signing of New Zealand bowling all-rounder Matthew Scoble as their overseas player for the 2026 season.
The 23-year-old arrives at Queensway from Wellington, where he has established himself as one of the most exciting young cricketers in the New Zealand Premier Cricket scene. He will line up for the ‘Aghy in the Mercury NCU Section One this season.
🌍 A Proven Performer
A right-arm medium-fast bowler and capable middle-order batter, Scoble has been a standout performer for the renowned Onslow Cricket Club in the Wellington Premier competition.
He has taken over 100 Premier wickets for the club, including remarkable match figures of 8–15, and has already claimed 20 wickets across all formats during the 2025/26 campaign.
🏆 Representative Honours
Scoble’s pedigree extends to representative cricket, having featured for Wellington at the U19 National Finals, where he finished among the top ten wicket-takers in the tournament.
He has since gone on to earn Wellington A honours, further underlining his credentials as a high-quality all-rounder.
In addition to his playing role, Scoble holds an NZC Level 1 coaching qualification and will be actively involved in coaching within Derriaghy’s thriving youth setup throughout the summer.
💬 Captain’s Thoughts
Club captain Ross Bailey said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have Matt on board for the season ahead.
His record speaks for itself – he’s someone who regularly takes the new ball, has over 100 Premier wickets to his name, and can contribute significantly with the bat lower down the order.
He’s exactly the type of player who will make a big impact in this team, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to Queensway.”
📅 Arrival & Season Start
Scoble is set to arrive in Northern Ireland on 15 April, where he will meet his new teammates ahead of Derriaghy’s opening fixture of the season – a home match at Queensway against Templepatrick on Saturday 25 April.
🔴 A Big Season Ahead
The addition of Scoble is an exciting step for Derriaghy Cricket Club, as the club looks to build on recent progress and make a strong impact in the upcoming season.
